2026 First Stages Playwright-in-Residence

Studio Theatre Worcester has officially opened the application for its 2026 Playwright-in-Residence program. As a core program of STW's First Stages initiative designed to provide early-career theatremakers with practical experience, mentorship, and platforms to showcase their work, this residency will support the development of a new full-length play by an early-career or emerging playwright living within Worcester or the Central Massachusetts region during the 2026 calendar year. Applications will close at 11:59pm EST on January 4th. Applicants will be notified in late January/early February regarding their status. Candidates moving onto the next round may be asked to submit a longer draft of their new work, and will be invited for an interview with the Literary and New Works Director.
