Organization Mission
The mission of Studio Theatre Worcester is to engage with and inspire the Worcester community by producing high-quality theatrical works, cultivating new plays and musicals, and providing arts education programs to develop the future theatre artists, designers, technicians, and administrators of tomorrow.
Essential Functions

Design company policies that reinforce diversity, address harassment, and support minority groups.

Review and provide input on communication on our website, social media pages, printed materials, and internal documents to ensure we use non-discriminatory language.

Actively participate in season planning and casting sessions by providing input on artistic decisions.

Act as a consultant for underrepresented groups to make sure voices are heard.

Measure and forecast diversity metrics.

Organize and lead trainings for Board of Directors and staff on diversity and inclusion topics.

Ensure compliance with state or national regulations on diversity and equity.
Core Responsibilities of all Board of Director Members

Understand, promote, and determine how the organization will carry out its mission through long and short-range planning.

Adopt an annual budget and provide fiscal oversight.

Establish and be familiar with the organization’s programs, policies, and operations.

Appoint and evaluate the performance of the Executive Director and Artistic Director.

Recruit, orient, and develop board members.
-
Attend board meetings; review agenda and supporting documents prior to attending.

Actively serve on at least one committee and/or offer to take on special assignments.
-
Participate in fundraising activities and special events.
-
Strictly adhere to conflict of interest and confidentiality policies.
Time Demands
-
Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of monthly board meetings (2hrs/month).

Attend and actively participate in committee meetings and/or related work (2-4hrs/month).

Attend and actively participate in the annual planning retreat (1 weekend day/year).

Attend special events such as fundraisers and opening night performances.

Meet with potential donors/funders to make a case for funding the organization, answer questions, etc.
Qualifications
-
Experience advancing an organizational culture into one of inclusivity, equity, and diversity preferably in a not-for-profit environment

Passion for arts and education
-
Knowledge of equal opportunity, affirmative action, and other compliance regulations preferably in context of arts organizations
-
A fundamental understanding of current issues and challenges facing individuals from underserved communities including, but not limited to sensitivity to racial equity/diversity
-
Knowledge and experience in cultural competency skills development and implementing equity, diversity and inclusion programs, trainings, and educational tools

Strategic leadership

Excellent oral and written presentation skills with an emphasis on the ability to build strong interpersonal relationships at all levels of an organization
